(L to R) 1939-45 War Medal; 1939-45 Star

We know very little about this man. He may have been Bromley Charles Richard Harvey.

Bromley was born on the 3rd February 1919 in Bucklow, Cheshire. He joined the Manchester Regiment in around late 1933 and was given the service number 3526213.

On the 21st and 22nd June 1935 Bromley obtained the 2nd Class Army Certificate of Education. At this time he was a member of the 2nd Battalion, stationed at Strensall in Yorkshire. Like all soldiers under 18 years old, Bromley held the rank of Boy. As a Boy he was a member of the Battalion Band, and we believe he continued to be a member of it for much of his Army service.

The rest of Bromley's life is a mystery. Between October and December 1945 he married Elsie Slater in Bucklow. He left the Army on the 10th May 1946, after the end of the Second World War. He married again, to Elizabeth M Shillington in Blackpool, between October and December 1983.

Bromley died on the 4th October 1986 in Trafford, Manchester. He was 67 years old.

These medals were donated to the Museum of the Manchester Regiment in February 1957. We don't know whether their owner earned any others during his Army service.
