William O’Brien :

William O’Brien : India General Service Medal with ‘Burma 1930-32’ clasp.

India General Service Medal with ‘Burma 1930-32’ clasp.

Little is known about the life and career of William O’Brien. He followed his family’s tradition of serving in the Army with the Manchester Regiment. His father, Patrick O’Brien, served during and after the First World War. His brother, Herbert, served in Palestine during the 1930s and in Burma during the Second World War.

William’s medal indicates he served in Burma, then a province of British India, between 1930 and 1932.

His medal was donated to the museum collection in 2012, along with his father’s and brother’s.
