General Service Medal with ‘Malaya’ clasp

Robert was born on the 27th December 1903. He lived at Coastguard Cottages in Gosport, Hampshire with his wife, Violet, who was born on the 28th April 1902. There are no other details of his life before he joined the Army.

Details of exactly when Robert joined the Army are not known, nor which battalion he joined. It is known that he was given the service number 22717643. He served in Malaya after the Second World War, sometime between the 16th June 1948 and 31st July 1960. The exact date is not known. He was a good soldier as shown by him climbing the ranks to Colour Sergeant Major. No other information is known of his life.

Robert’s medal was donated to the museum collections in 2013.
