A Atkin : General Service Medal with ‘Iraq’ clasp

General Service Medal with ‘Iraq’ clasp

Little is known about A Atkin. He served with the Manchester Regiment in Iraq during the 1920s. The 2nd Battalion was garrisoned there in 1920 as part of the Mandate of Mesopotamia and Palestine following the First World War. He was given two service numbers during his time in the Army, 85115 and 3513479.

He was awarded the General Service Medal with ‘Iraq’ clasp for his service. For some unknown reason, at some point this medal was mounted alongside other soldiers’ medals, including First World War and Second World War campaign medals.

This medal set was donated to the museum collections in 2019.
