We know very little about this man. He served in Burma during the Second World War with the 2nd Battalion of the Manchester Regiment. By the end of the war he held the rank of Sergeant. He was a batman, or servant, for an Army Chaplain; the Reverend Peter Mayhew MBE. Peter served with the 2nd Battalion from March 1940 until November 1944. We don't know what other jobs John had.

John married Olive, although we don't know when, and the couple lived at 37 Princess Street in Glossop, Derbyshire. John had died by December 2005.
