Allied Victory Medal
We don't know anything about George's family or early life.
He served in the Manchester Regiment during the First World War. His service number was 77487. This number was issued during mid 1918, so it is likely that George was conscripted into the Army. Under conscription it was not unusual for soldiers to be assigned to units with no connection to their local area. We don't know which battalion he served in.
The rest of George's life is a mystery. His medal was donated to the Museum of the Manchester Regiment in 2008.
As well as his Allied Victory Medal, George was also awarded the British War Medal for his Army service.
